So while I was
ARE YOU A TRIATHLETE?
This guy is certainly not talking to me, but then again we are the only two in the pool. I almost pulled my best DeNiro and started saying to him 'You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You must be talkin' to me because I'm the only one standing here'
For those of you to young to know this quote.....here you go:
For those of you to young to know this quote.....here you go:
I said yes I am a triathlete....I left out aspiring. And we started talking and he is a member of the US National team (no wonder he was cruising in the water) and was just getting started with his training as his season is opening up in a few months. Chuck it was great meeting you and hopefully we run into each other again.
This led me to think about what does a triathlete look like? Do we have the same pained facial expressions as we are pushing laps out in the pool or sweating buckets on the trainer? Did the fact that I rUn from the pool to a stationary bike to a treadmill give it away?
Maybe it really was because I was swimming my laps like this:
HAPPY HUMP DAY Y'ALL !!!!!

Unfortunately I am too old to know that quote.
YES, he was talking to you!! You who was kicking ass and taking names in the pool. You with the fine form and muscles. Funny how people see us so clearly before we are able to see ourselves.
PS: my word verification was "be fat." Hmmmm. Need more shart brownies.
Whatever the reason, I'd take it as a compliment!
In a year or so, your come back would be "No.... I'm an Ironman, and you?"
I was thinking he said that because he saw the flailing in the water.....but I had a great swim session today. One of the best in a long time.
Bob - that just made me smile from ear to ear. Appreciate the confidence and I will not disappoint you. I did get White Rock for you after all so that quote will definitely be used as well.
Of course you're a triathlete... it was that smile you had on your face when you came up for breath even though you were just in pain a few seconds before that.
You look like a triathlete, you live like a triathlete.... you ARE A TRIATHLETE!!!
Lesley - I do force myslef to smile in the water because it is the only way I can get through it. My worst discipline but my favorite because it makes me work.
I know the quote well - does that mean I am old? Crap.
compliment? yep - he was checking out his competition!
How many pool toys did you have on the ledge? Usually that gives us away....how are your tan lines doing? Another giveaway.
Cool that you got to swim next to fasty! Inspiring, right?
C2Iowa - we are as old as we believe ourselves to be otherwise it is just experience.
Jon - believe it or not I had no tri pool toys. The warm-up was freestyle and sculling then 1000y swim, 5x100 descending, 8x50 kicks, then 10 minutes free.
It was great swimming next to him I just wish he were there for the 1000y to push me more. I swam next to a neighbor Ironman last week and she pushed me from the normal 1:55-2:00/100y down to 1:43-1:48 and it was awesome.
I like that you were thinking about your humorous post while swimming today, I always think of post ideas while working out :D
Awesome compliment and awesome that you had a great swim sesh too!!
Uh yeah I'd say you LOOK LIKE A TRIATHLETE!!
You swim with your bike too?? I do the SAME thing!!
(of course your a triathlete!!!)
Maybe it's because you swim in a unitard?
Yes, you absolutely look like a triathlete!!
yes you are fo' sho'! As for me...I will be this year =)
Were you wearing that Ironman suit again? He was probably checking out your leg muscles!! ;)
no one-piecer here....just me and my therojock (that is what I call that skimpy little TYR I am sporting these days.....)
Here are how I tell if someone is a triathlete at the pool: Multiple tan lines, numerous swim toys (pull buoy, fins, kick board), mp3 strapped to Aqua Sphere googles, wearing jammers, not doing flip turns, wearing swim cap with a Tri name on it, some type of s/b/r tat, smell like chlorine before you get in the pool, swimming 2:30/100, a Total Immersion book at end of lane, grease on right calf, dirt underneath finger nails, drove to gym in a hybrid hatch back with a 70.3 bumper sticker, a bike bottle at end of lane for hydration ... or (drum beat) the number one reason someone knew you were a Triathlete? You told them (-:
That guy probably started his post today ... "So I was swimming this morning, and this dude was flying by me. Funny thing though, he was carrying a bike???" Good workout!
Take a triathlete to know a triathlete! :) I'm with the others... he was sizing up his competition!
That's definitely a great way to start a day!
Jason,
I regret that the "director" in the video didn't fall down so much as tried to manipulate the camera with the end result of the camera manipulating him.
Hope all is well on your blog, training and life and I hope that I've somehow directed people to your blog through the banner add. You deserve it!
Jeff - I have read this 3 or 4x since you posted and laugh each and every time. Problem is no more tan lines b/c it has been so cold in Texas lately.
Jim - That was hilarious. He probably also said 'but he was wearing a swim cap and not a helmet. Not a smart guy'
Thanks for the comments group. Loved all of them and they all made me smile.
I like how you swim laps :). I think that would work for me as well, sans bike strapped to my back, so I could get around all the newbie, resolutionites, Michael Phelp wannabes :).

Nothing like hearing from 'fans' so....let's hear it. The good, the bad and the ugly.
